Changing winds – Situation & outlook for Friday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A change is in the offing for Friday, with some showers in store for parts of the country through the day – and contrasting outlooks for east and west.

A northwesterly airflow sits over the country at the beginning of the day before a frontal system moves onto the lower South Island in the morning.
The system will move its way up the country and reach the upper south and lower North Islands later in the evening, or around midnight.

Winds behind the front will change south to southwesterly, bringing rain or showers with them.
It’s looking drier ahead of the change in the east, with just some high cloud and high temperatures.

Rain is in store for South Westland in the morning, moving into North Westland by afternoon.
