WeatherWatch.co.nz says the centre of the low responsible for today’s weather dramas across the North Island is now moving into northern parts of the greater Auckland region. WeatherWatch.co.nz says within the next hour the strong winds should ease temporarily.
Latest weather observations across the Far North and upper parts of Northland show a change to sou’westers.
The air pressure is also rising at the northern weather stations – a sign the centre of the low is now moving away from the Far North as it moves towards Auckland.
Meanwhile some parts of Auckland are still being belted by gusty winds, but not everyone is exposed to them. Some reports coming in to WeatherWatch.co.nz speak of “not a breath of wind” while others report “a howling gale”.
Whangaparaoa and the North Shore appear to be getting the strongest winds based on comments sent in to WeatherWatch.co.nz. This would make sense with the winds coming from the north east direction straight off the sea.
The air pressure in Auckland is still falling as the low approaches however winds should start to ease as the low’s centre gets closer (and the air pressure evens out).
WeatherWatch.co.nz says tonight’s winds will contribute to higher sea levels at the next King Tide at 11:21pm.
It is expected more roads will go underwater tonight as a storm surge, kind tide and gales combine.
A strong south west wind will push back into Auckland behind the centre of the low in the early hours of Monday.

Hi there, we are up on Pakiri Ridge in Leigh and some of those gusts tonight have been scary (and we are use to wild windy weather up here!). Even the toilet water is sloshing.

The fire siren has just gone again here in Beachlands, its high tide right about now so Im guessing its maybe more flooding down at Maraetai?
