Bob Parker’s Parka

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Sometimes humour can be the best medicine, even as the horror of the Christchurch earthquake continues to unfold.

A Facebook fan page has been set up to support Mayor Bob Parker.  The group describes the Facebook page as “An appreciation group for the man holding Christchurch together and the jacket that’s keeping him warm”.

Mayor Parker is no stranger to the cameras and his previous television career has clearly given him confidence in the public spot light – but there’s been one consistent theme over the past week… his orange and black jacket.

As of 1:45pm the page had 246 fans.

An hour ago this was the main update “Apparently it’s 25 degrees in Chch at the moment – it’s OK – Bob can just roll his sleeves up a bit.”.

The page is full of complimentary comments dedicated to the man tasked with rebuilding the broken city.

Meanwhile one man is making the best of a bad situation and is selling the 25 to 30 tonne rock which destroyed his home after the quake on Trade Me.
