Thunderstorms are possible for about the southern half of the North Island today. Any storms that do develop will likely have some strong and gusty winds associated with them.
But even without those storms we are seeing some rather windy conditions.
Blustery west to northwest winds have been whipping across parts of the lower North Island this morning. Reports have come in from Waikato, Taranaki and Wairarapa of very gusty winds.
Expect windy conditions to persist about the North Island today with the windiest conditions likely focused on the lower half of the island. Winds could approach gale force at times. Gusts associated with thunderstorms could reach 100 km/h. This is especially true for thunderstorms that develop about Taranaki, Wanganui and the Kapiti Coast.
