Big rain warnings rolled out across country

UPDATED — Northland has been added to the list of regions facing rain warnings today – the government forecaster has issued over a dozen rain warnings for New Zealand ahead of a slow moving, active, rain band.

*Please note, we apologise for not including Northland in our last update.  We requested some time ago for MetService to set us up with automatic feeds, which we are still waiting on.

Here are the warnings, valid as of 12:30pm.

Northland

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The hills of Northland north of Kaikohe In the 21 hours from 9pm Wednesday to 6pm Thursday expect 80 to 100mm of rain, and possibly more about the coastal hills about and north of the Bay of Islands. Peak intensities of 20 to 30mm/hr expected overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Bay Of Plenty

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The ranges of eastern Bay of Plenty Heavy rain is expected to develop Thursday morning. In the 24 hours from 6am Thursday to 6am Friday, expect 150 to 200mm of rain. Peak intensities of 25mm/hr expected from mid Thursday afternoon to about midnight Thursday. 

Taumarunui

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Tongariro National Park Rain is expected to develop tonight and become heavy early Thursday morning. In the 21 hours from 3am Wednesday to midnight Thursday, expect 80 to 100mm of rain. Peak intensities of 15 to 20mm/hr Thursday morning and afternoon.

Rotorua

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The ranges of eastern Bay of Plenty Heavy rain is expected to develop Thursday morning. In the 24 hours from 6am Thursday to 6am Friday, expect 150 to 200mm of rain. Peak intensities of 25mm/hr expected from mid Thursday afternoon to about midnight Thursday. 

Taupo

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Tongariro National Park Rain is expected to develop tonight and become heavy early Thursday morning. In the 21 hours from 3am Wednesday to midnight Thursday, expect 80 to 100mm of rain. Peak intensities of 15 to 20mm/hr Thursday morning and afternoon.

Taihape

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Tongariro National Park Rain is expected to develop tonight and become heavy early Thursday morning. In the 21 hours from 3am Wednesday to midnight Thursday, expect 80 to 100mm of rain. Peak intensities of 15 to 20mm/hr Thursday morning and afternoon. 

Wairarapa

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The Tararua Range Heavy rain is expected to develop Wednesday evening. In the 18 hours from 9pm Wednesday to 3pm Thursday, expect 80 to 120mm of rain. Peak intensities of 20mm/hr Thursday morning.

Taranaki

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Mount Taranaki Heavy rain is expected to develop Wednesday evening. In the 24 hours from 6pm Wednesday to 6pm Thursday, expect 120 to 180mm of rain. Peak intensities of 20mm/hr Thursday morning.

Manawatu

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The Tararua Range Heavy rain is expected to develop Wednesday evening. In the 18 hours from 9pm Wednesday to 3pm Thursday, expect 80 to 120mm of rain. Peak intensities of 20mm/hr Thursday morning.

Horowhenua

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The Tararua Range Heavy rain is expected to develop Wednesday evening. In the 18 hours from 9pm Wednesday to 3pm Thursday, expect 80 to 120mm of rain. Peak intensities of 20mm/hr Thursday morning.

Wellington

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The Tararua Range Heavy rain is expected to develop Wednesday evening. In the 18 hours from 9pm Wednesday to 3pm Thursday, expect 80 to 120mm of rain. Peak intensities of 20mm/hr Thursday morning.

Marlborough

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The Richmond and Bryant Ranges In the 21 hours from 9am Wednesday to 6am Thursday, expect 130 to 180mm of rain. Peak intensities of 25mm/hr from Wednesday afternoon.

Nelson

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The ranges of western Nelson In the 21 hours from 9am Wednesday to 6am Thursday expect a further 130 to 180mm of rain on top of what has already fallen, and possibly as much as 230mm of rain on some of the higher peaks. Peak intensities of 25 to 30mm/hr expected Wednesday morning and afternoon. Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The Richmond and Bryant RangesIn the 21 hours from 9am Wednesday to 6am Thursday, expect 130 to 180mm of rain. Peak intensities of 25mm/hr from Wednesday afternoon. 

Nelson Lakes

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The ranges of western Nelson In the 21 hours from 9am Wednesday to 6am Thursday expect a further 130 to 180mm of rain on top of what has already fallen, and possibly as much as 230mm of rain on some of the higher peaks. Peak intensities of 25 to 30mm/hr expected Wednesday morning and afternoon. Buller

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: The ranges of Buller In the 21 hours from 9am Wednesday to 6am Thursday, expect a further 100 to 150mm of rain on top of what has already fallen. Peak intensities of 25mm/hr expected Wednesday morning and afternoon. Note, coastal areas may receive 70 to 100mm in this time.
