Australia: Wet Sunday for areas recently hit by record breaking heat

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A week or two ago this area was breaking heat records but this weekend it will be about the rain through some parts of New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania.

With Australia breaking all sorts of heat records this year any rain will be hugely welcome by farmers, growers and fire officers concerned about the developing fire season.

Here’s the latest for the weekend from our new official partners at The Weather Company/IBM

  • Scattered thunder showers are expected especially around the ranges/mountains in the eastern half of the country.
  • Total amounts of rainfall are not very significant, 20mm for the daytime is the maximum precipitation.
  • There may be some scattered thunderstorms around parts of inland NSW.
  • Even though only a small amount of rain is forecast, thunderstorms are also possible around Perth.

Key:

  • Blue = just 2 mm of rain
  • Green = 5mm
  • Yellow = 10mm
  • Orange = 15 to 20mm
