Sydney just registered its eighth consecutive day over 20 degrees, setting a new record for July.
The average maximum temperature in Sydney during July is about 16 degrees. However, this month has only had one day below 17 degrees so far.
A lack of cloud, rain and strong cold fronts have been responsible for this month’s unusual warmth in Sydney.
After reaching 20.1 degrees just before 2pm, Thursday became Sydney’s eighth day in a row above 20 degrees. This beat the city’s previous July record of seven consecutive days from 2018.
It was also the 12th day over 20 degrees so far this month, nearing the July record of 13 days from 2018. This record is a good chance of falling by the end of the week, with tops of about 20 degrees forecast in the city between Friday and Monday.
