Australia – Storms likely for Sydney this arvo

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Heat will build during this morning, which will likely lead to thunderstorms from this afternoon.

With temperatures expected to comfortably reach the mid-high 30’s across large parts of Sydney, and plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, conditions are primed for thunderstorm development. The main focus of thunderstorms will be across western suburbs, but this is not to rule out a few storms making it to the coast.

There is the potential for some of the storms that develop to be severe. This includes damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall. Localised falls in excess of 25mm over a short space of time are possible, which may lead to flash flooding.

Showers and storms will tend to ease into this evening and overnight, before redeveloping through tomorrow afternoon and evening, with further heavy falls of rain and damaging winds on the cards.

Enjoy the light show, but from the safety of inside.
