Australia: Heatwave hits, temperatures roar to 47 degrees

Australia is sweltering today under an intense heatwave with temperatures in the mid to late 40s…Celsius. 

Our friends at Weatherzone in Australia have been tweeting the big headlines this afternoon:

  • Penrith has had its hottest day in at least 23 years, reaching 46.9 degrees, 18 degrees above average
  • Forbes in scorched by hottest day in 135 years, reaching 46.5 degrees
  • Canberra now having hottest spell in 50 years, exceeding 41 degrees for two days running
