Virtually all of New South Wales and Southern Queensland experienced a very mild morning up to nine degrees above average yesterday.

Stanthorpe only fell to 11.9 degrees in the morning, 9 degrees above the June average minimum of 2.1C. Across the border, Grafton (15.6C), Lismore (16.1C), Glen Innes (9.4C) and Casino (16.0C) were all at least 8 degrees above average. 

These temperatures match more closely with the November average minimum temperatures for each location, rather than the June temperatures.

Above average temperatures extended all throughout NSW with the exception of the Alpine Region.

This unusually warm morning was caused by high cloud in the jetstream, insulating the atmosphere. This cloud also brought showers and patches of rain to coastal parts near the NSW-QLD border with Evans Head picking up 20.4mm in the rain gauge.

As this cloud moves offshore, overnight conditions look to fall at or below average for NSW and QLD during the coming week under a high pressure ridge.
