Atlantic Triple Threat: 1 major hurricane + 2 other storms

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The Atlantic continues to buzz with energy as Igor becomes a powerful Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 240km/h and gusts much higher.

Igor’s huge amount of energy – central air pressure just 933hPa – means deadly waves and rips are affecting the eastern Caribbean and warnings are also in place for Bermuda.

Again this will pose a dangerous threat for eastern beaches of the United States with large swells and rips.

Another area of concern is a large area of thunderstorms in the Caribbean – this may turn into a tropical depression soon and may impact the tourist area of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

Thirdly, Tropical Storm Julia has now formed in the eastern Atlantic. It’s early days yet but this system will likely pose no threat to the Caribbean.
