This coming week will mainly be dominated by anticyclones again bringing mostly settled weather. Still, some will be affected by periods of cloud. Early Wednesday the fly comes buzzing in in the form of a southerly frontal system moving onto the South Island early in the day then onto the North Island in the afternoon. So lets see how things unfold.
Monday has a big anticyclone covering the whole country, mostly sunny weather can be expected for all with light winds and afternoon sea breezes about coastal areas. Some cloud will likely catch Gisborne and eastern Northland however as an east to southeasterly airflow moves around the outside of the high, this cloud also brings the low
risk of a shower in the morning. It is looking mainly dry though.
On Tuesday a west to northwesterly airflow increases over the South Island and
lower North Island, so some cloud in the west of the South Island is likely with
rain or showers about Fiordland later in the evening, warm to hot temperatures
in the east. Southerlies move onto Southland and Otago around midnight bringing
showers.
The North Island is mostly sunny with sea breezes in the upper half of the Island, northerlies become strong in the afternoon about Wellington. The east of the North Island sees northwesterlies for the most
part and very warm temperatures but right on the coast easterly winds may keep
temperatures a little cooler in the likes of Napier and Gisborne, still looking
to be a great day though.
Wednesday sees southerlies move into Canterbury and southern Marlborough in the morning bringing a period of showers or drizzle patches, showers clear Southland in the afternoon then Otago at night. Showers
clear Canterbury and Marlborough overnight. The West Coast has some morning rain then clearing with sunny spells developing in the afternoon.
In the afternoon southerlies move onto the lower North Island and along the east coast bringing a period of showers, the upper North Island sees sunny spells and light winds tending southeasterly later in the
day.
On Thursday another anticyclone moves onto the South Island from the
Tasman Sea, mostly sunny weather from morning with light winds in the west, southerlies ease in the east. In the north showers clear from the lower North Island in the morning, expect cloudy skies for much of the day on
the east coast however with the odd shower still continuing north of about
Napier. In the west expect mostly sunny weather with southeasterly
winds.
About northern parts of Auckland, the Coromandel and Northland a
southeasterly airflow brings cloud and the odd shower during the
day.
Finally on Friday expect mostly sunny weather with light winds and
sea breezes for much of the country. The exceptions are East Cape, Northland and
Fiordland. Easterly winds about the northern regions will likely bring some
cloud with the odd light shower possible at times. Fiordland catches a light
northerly airflow bringing cloudy periods and the possibility of a drizzle patch
or two.
