Another large aftershock rattles Canterbury

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Canterbury has been hit by yet another aftershock this evening, a magnitude 4.5 quake.

It struck at 8.07pm and was centred 10km east of Christchurch at a depth of 10km.

Twitter users said it was a strong shake that went on for a long time. It was felt as far north as Waikuku and as far south as Waimate.

Gabbi tweeted: “Plates broken & power out for a few minutes on that one – huge rumble,” while Mat Wiseman said: “That was a good one. Big enough to knock stuff over.”

Canterbury has been shaken by hundreds of aftershocks since February 22’s deadly 6.3 earthquake.
