UPDATED 4:52pm — Another damaging earthquake has just hit Chile, this time inland.
The earthquake was initially reported as 7.4 then the USGS raised it to 7.8, now 7.6 is the confirmed strength, at a depth of 20kms east of yesterday’s 8.2 quake.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has activated but no warnings or watches are in place.
Strong currents and rips are still expected today around eastern parts of New Zealand due to yesterday’s eastern Pacific tsunami.
