Cantabrians woke up to a frost this morning , with temperatures dropping below freezing at Christchurch airport.
Further north and Levin was also feeling the chill early this morning with just one solitary degree.
Temperatures are expected to lift considerably in these areas but a southerly change is expected to sweep up the mainland later today delivering some heavy showers at times with the possibility of hail and snow at higher altitudes.
