A nice day is in progress across New Zealand…

> From the WeatherWatch archives

…as long as you don’t mind some fresh breezes and some clouds.

High pressure is doing its best to give us a settled day.  But with a few things working against it, the result is wind and clouds and even a few spits of rain.

Auckland will continue to see clouds and wind today.  A few peeks of sun are likely.  Rain is not.

Wind and clouds will be an issue for Wellington, Hawkes Bay and Taranaki too.  These areas could see a few passing showers this afternoon.

The rest of the North Island will have wind, but will have a little more sunshine.  Still not a cloud free sky, however.

Skies are clearing out nicely in Queenstown today.  Expect skies to continue to clear across the deep south as we go through your Sunday.

A few showers will still be possible for cental and northen South Island.

…just another of Auckland’s infamous and all-too-common “gloom” days!!!

We all know about anticyclonic cloud cover, but how come both Weatherwatch and the Met Service keep on trying to tell is that this is a ‘glorious summers weekend” in Auckland? When you just have to go outside to see that the sun is basically hidden and the breeze is more like a cool spring or autumnal one! A quick look at the weatherunderground satellite photos show the cloud cover extending out into the Tasman and the wind pushing it onshore over the north of the NI. Not too hard to predict, really, I would have thought.
