A colder start – but a calmer Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Hands up who thought last night and this morning were a bit cold?  Social media is buzzing this morning with people surprised at the sudden cold snap across many parts of New Zealand.

As you can see from the 8:25am nationwide temperature map – it’s a colder morning this morning, with the blue shading indicating single digit temperatures.

But while it may be a crisp start, it’s already warmer as of 8:25am than at the warmest part of yesterday for some places.  Wellington, for example, was on 7 to 9 degrees yesterday afternoon – right now it’s 8 to 10 degrees with the mercury rising.

Thursday will warm up – but tonight may be cold with a few frosts in some sheltered places. But the cold is short lived – warmer weather returns over the next day or two.
