-4 in Waikato, widespread frosts across Auckland

6:48am — It’s a cold start to the day with Waikato well below zero and Auckland experiencing widespread frosts this morning.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says that parts of Auckland are currently between -2 and +3 degrees.

Meanwhile further south in Hamilton and it’s bitterly cold with -4 as of 6:30am.

Dunedin is hovering around 2 degrees, with Christchurch just dipping below -1 in the past 30 minutes.

Meanwhile Wellington is the warmest of the main centres, with 7 degrees at 6:30am.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says the frost in Auckland especially will be damaging to tropical and sub-tropical plants not used to frosts,but no serious problems are expected.
