200 to 300mm coming for the West Coast as Aussie rainmakers arrive in NZ

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The next five days will likely see well over 200mm accumulate on the West Coast as a series of fronts and lows move in from Australia.

Rain sets in later today and will intensify at times over the weekend as rainmakers move through with pulses of heavy set in rain and thunderstorms too. A large area will have over 200mm with some locations potentially closer to 300mm. 100mm+ may also fall in the days ahead for those around Mt Taranaki and National Park.

MetService has also issued a rain warning, likely the first of many. You can click here to see them live via WeatherWatch.

Slips, flooding and road closures are all possible this weekend and the start of next week.

Check your local WeatherWatch or RuralWeather.co.nz forecast for hyper-local rainfall totals.
