100km/h winds hammer Southand, icebergs

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Gale force winds continued to pound Soutland overnight with westerlies reaching 100km/h at times.

Invercargill based WeatherWatch reporter, Macolm Gayfer, says the winds blasted all night and after weeks of strong winds “everyone’s getting sick of them”.

The strong winds aren’t expected to ease much today however lighter winds are on the way for the weekend.

Meanwhile the gales are also affecting the area south of New Zealand where hundreds of icebergs are.  The gales have meant local Southland pilots can’t get up in the sky and accurately track their current location or size.
