Happy ny team ww. It seems that Christchurch and wider Canterbury is stuck in this perpetual cycle of sub 20′ highs. Is there any outlook that points to a return to warmer temps for the region or was summer the first 2 weeks of December lol.

Why are the nights and mornings feeling like winter in Auckland..

Hi Karl,
This story explains the set up at the moment: https://www.weatherwatch.co.nz/content/mid-january-weather-dry-high-pressure-expands-but-heat-isnt-for-all-11-maps
But basically a big low east of NZ, high pressure west and south of us – and that’s pulling in a southerly flow into parts of NZ (even if locally winds are different).

Hello WW Team
I noticed that the UV index for Bayswater(IAUCKL127) has been 11 for two weeks straight. I didn’t notice any other abnomalies

Hi Vict,
Thanks for your comment. UV isn’t connected to your local weather station. UV is part of the hourly forecast data we provide. The UV numbers rise to “extreme” in summer which is 10+. It can last several weeks or even a few months like this in NZ, especially with clear skies.
Cheers
– WW

Thanks for that. I mentioned that because in the 2 years that I’ve been recording the weather for Belmont and Bayswater, the UV index stayed the same at most for 3 days

Your weather info. is so much more accurate then that other website. They continue to state temps in Fahrenheit and do not realise that NZ moved to Celsius many decadess ago! They are also sadly locked into Opera website advertising!!!
