If you could wave a magic wand what sort of winter would you enjoy mostly?
Would it be sunny days with not too much wind or do you enjoy the odd rainy or snowy spell to make it a real winter.
What’s a comfortable temperature for you at this time of the year?
For some, staying in double figures is a priority, and if that’s the case Auckland northwards might serve you best as it’s only on seldom occasions when temperatures dip below 10 degrees as the maximum temperature for the day.
If colder southerly changes are your thing then eastern and southern areas of both islands might be a bonus. They vary year to year but usually there’s a decent two a three during winter than can feel quite invigorating.
We’ve had a chat in the Weatherwatch office and Philip enjoys the warmest of conditions, Richard likes the extreme of Canterbury weather from snowy southerlies to hot nor’ westers and Aaron lives in snow territory in inland Canterbury and he’s already had a dusting in and around his place.
Are you into skiing and love it when big dumps arrive on the mountains so you can hit the slopes or do you prefer the heatpump and fires at full throttle when the temperatures have that icy feel.
What wets your whistle when it comes to winter weather-It’s be great to get your thoughts!

I love anything extreme – though preferably bad, cold, or other weather. Hot is just boring 😀

I enjoy the warmth of the Whangarei winters but not the damp cold spells we can get, hard to keep warm when it is like that.
Today is sunny and mostly blue sky with a very nice 18 deg, can sunbathe today.
I also enjoy the good dry cold stuff they get down south where you can dress in warm clothing and enjoy the cold clear air. I am definitely not into snow anymore having vivid memories of the English winters.

Like Richard, I enjoy the weather here in Canterbury, especially the polar blasts and snow during Winter, I think a winter without snow is pretty boring and personally a huge dissapointment for me. So I think it’s fair to say that snow is my favorite aspect of Winter (when it falls to sea-level). It would be amazing to see snow here in Christchurch this Winter 🙂
