A high pressure system which sits over the country will hold off a large rain bearing system moving in slowly from the Tasman Sea – but in the meantime, warm northerly winds from the Tropics are bringing some distinctly un-wintry conditions!

Tuesday

Blue: Heavy spells of rain on the West Coast of the South Island and around Marlborough at times, too

Purple: Strong winds blow through Cook Strait at times throughout the day

Wednesday

Blue: Heavy spells of rain on the West Coast of the South Island, and the upper North Island

Purple: Northerly winds through Cook Strait and perhaps about inland Canterbury may be gusty at times during the day

Thursday

Blue: Heavy spells of rain on the West Coast of the South Island and parts of the eastern North Island
