Can we still expect the heavy rain from lunchtime?

WW Forecast Team on 30/04/2011 10:43pm

Hi there, our latest data shows it won’t be as widespread as what MetService was predicting yesterday, but heavy rain is still likely in some eastern areas this afternoon and during Monday morning.

– Cheers, WeatherWatch Weekends

EDIT:  Please note Metservice has downgraded their Northland warning – almost halving the predicted rain: Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Northland In the 24 hours from about midday Sunday to midday Monday, expect up to 120mm of rain in the eastern hills. Peak intensities of 15mm per hour at times. Lesser amounts are expected elsewhere.

There appears to be a band of heavier rain across the Auckland area at this time. Is this the frontal band referred to in the weather reports?

WW Forecast Team on 30/04/2011 10:40pm

We expect any rain bands today to be very weak (air pressure is still very high over Auckland and the low is still quite a distance away).  So if you’re looking at rain radar images expect those rain bands to disintegrate a fair bit as they head south – ending up as just a few showers over Auckland today.  Rain is more likely tomorrow (or maybe overnight).
