Winds continue – #WeatherRisks on Monday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Windy weather continues at the start of the new week, after a weekend where we saw damaging gales in some parts of the country.

Southwesterly winds this morning are strong to gale force from the southwest about Otago Peninsula, Banks Peninsula especially and then for Wellington and coastal Wairarapa.
The coastal Kaikoura area will be blown about to an extent also, though winds will ease by midday about Otago Peninsula, and in other areas in the afternoon.

From this evening, northwesterly winds build about Southland – with winds gusting to gale through Foveaux Strait.
Northwesterly winds build in the late evening and overnight about all interior parts of the South Island, becoming strong in exposed areas.

As always, keep up to date with the latest risks and warnings through Civil Defence and your local government.
