Wind warnings across Gisborne and Hawkes Bay have today been extended, instead of ending at midnight tonight they will now end at 6am tomorrow.
The wind warnings for Wairarapa will still end at midnight tonight.
MetService says severe gales, gusting up to 130km/h, will blast the area and may bring down trees, powerlines and lift roofs.
Winds at Mahia Peninsula are currently gusting over 80km/h.
