Wind & rain warnings issued for upper NI

Severe wind and rain warnings have this evening been issued by the government forecast as a low continues to deepen north east of Auckland.

Here are the warnings in their entirity as of 7:10pm.

Northland

Strong Wind Warning, Areas Affected: Exposed coastal areas from northern Coromandel Peninsula to eastern Northland including Great Barrier Island Southeast winds are expected to rise to gale 75 km/h gusts 120 km/h at times from from about 7pm today until about 4am on Wednesday.Winds should ease a little after that.

Auckland

Strong Wind Warning, Areas Affected: Exposed coastal areas from northern Coromandel Peninsula to eastern Northland including Great Barrier Island Southeast winds are expected to rise to gale 75 km/h gusts 120 km/h at times from from about 7pm today until about 4am on Wednesday.Winds should ease a little after that.

Coromandel

Bay Of Plenty

Strong Wind Warning, Areas Affected: Gisborne north of Ruatoria and Bay of Plenty as far west as about Kawerau Southeast gales 75 km/h gusting 120 km/h at times in Gisborne north of Ruatoria are forecast to affect exposed areas of Bay of Plenty as far west as about Kawerau also by about 6pm today. Winds should ease a little by dawn on Wednesday.

Rotorua

Strong Wind Warning, Areas Affected: Gisborne north of Ruatoria and Bay of Plenty as far west as about Kawerau Southeast gales 75 km/h gusting 120 km/h at times in Gisborne north of Ruatoria are forecast to affect exposed areas of Bay of Plenty as far west as about Kawerau also by about 6pm today. Winds should ease a little by dawn on Wednesday. 


Gisborne

Heavy Rain Warning, Areas Affected: Gisborne In the 30 to 36 hours from 6pm Tuesday to early Thursday morning, expect 230 to 280mm of rain north of Tologa Bay with the heaviest falls about the coastal hills. Further south, 120 to 150mm is expected in the ranges during this period and 60 to 90mm in lower lying areas. Peak intensities of 20 to 25mm/hr are likely near the hills and ranges on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
