Wind causes problems for motorists

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Severe winds are making driving treacherous near Levin and on the Kapiti Coast.

Police are receiving reports of extremely high winds down the coast and inland through to Palmerston North.

Spokesman Ken Climo says it calls for careful driving in the area.

“Police are advising motorists to take extreme care especially those riding motorcycles or those driving high-sided vehicles like trucks. We’ve already had one incident with a truck coming to grief partly as a result of the wind,” he says.

The weather has also caused problems for rail services this morning, with services on the Kapiti line running up to 60 minutes.

Normal services should resume at about 9:30am.
