Winds are set to be strong, gusting to severe gale at times through the Fiordland coastline – blowing from the northeast.
Northeast winds will become breezy to brisk elsewhere around the country after midday, but nothing to write home about.
Rain is set to become heavy on the West Coast of the South Island, as well as the northwest Nelson region overnight, and while the West Coast should handle this fine, those in the northwest Nelson area may need to take care.
Metservice warnings will likely be in force – while parts of the far north may see some heavy overnight rain also.
