I think the only part of NZ that hasn’t been getting any of the rain over the last month has to be the Hurunui District in Nth Canterbury.

Its dryer now than what it was in Feb/March.
Ive recoreded only 2.5mm on 1st May – none since then & 14mm for April

Hopefully some rain coming on Sunday.  Otago is also still very dry.

Thanks for the update – much appreciated.

Well I do not have a rain gauge but since a very heavy downpour at 4pm Friday it has been quite nice, some cloud with warm sun. It produced two glorious rainbows with extremely strong colours.
The expected weather this morning was good rain around the area but it is sunny mostly. Clouds are threatening but very uncertain as to having any more rain for awhile. My wife is pondering on hanging out washing.
So rainfall has not followed predictions so far. Good and wet on the ground and maybe starting to sink in, certainly have grass growing in places that have been bare for months.

I think your prediction of a slow end to the drought is looking to be correct.

Nothing yesterday and only .8 since the good rainfall on Wed in Coatesville. Noticed yesterday some tiny new grass growing on some bare patches in paddocks. Still huge cracks. Really, really hoping for some more in the next couple of days to keep things going.

The weather station at Parakai Airfield (near Helensville)
http://www.ParakaiAirfield.co.nz/weather
shows a useful amount of rain but the local farmers need a lot more.
