Wet weekend coming to an end

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The wet weekend is drawing to a close as a large cold front slowly moves across the country.

Heavy rain fell across many regions last night but is this afternoon easing in Auckland and Northland with sunny spells expected to increase.

In Christchurch it’s showery with a cool easterly, the temperature well down on yesterday when the nor’wester lifted it closer to around 20.  Currently it’s 9.

Wellington has rain and northerlies but rain is expected to ease soon.

Meanwhile the rain keeps coming down in Bay of Plenty and it’s not expected to ease there until later in the afternoon.

The North Island is very mild with 16s and 17s for most centres as of 12noon.
