Wet east NI and bitter cold in the far south

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Parts of the Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington are seeing a soggy Saturday afternoon with a gusty southerly in the capital nearing 80kph. Conditions aren’t expected to ease too quickly but Napier and hastings should see the first signs of easing and a gradual clearance.

Queenstown, Wanaka and Lumsden are barely above freezing this afternoon, after a hefty frost this morning which isn’t disappearing that rapidly. More of the same is expected over the next 2 to 3 days.

Auckland saw heavy fog this morning with a number of cancelled flights at the airport but services were slowly getting up and running before lunchtime.
