Wet and cold for some – #WeatherRisks for Tuesday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Tuesday’s weather risks are all cold and rain related – as there’s not too much windy weather anywhere in New Zealand – though there will be snow flurries and thunderstorms in places.

Rain

Showers could become heavy especially this afternoon for western regions of the North Island, with a few heavy falls in there.
There’s a low risk of a thunderstorms for Northland and Auckland this afternoon also, before the risk dies away towards evening.

Snow

The eastern North Island is set for showers and maybe hail later in the day, while snow flurries then lower to 300m overnight about the Wairarapa and 500m further north.
Wellington is looking at potential snow flurries to 500m, lowering to 300m later in the evening.

Marlborough & Nelson could see some snow to 300m with evening showers.
Canterbury’s coastal areas – especially Banks Peninsula – are at risk for some low level snow flurries, possibly lowering to sea level overnight.
Southland & Otago will see the odd wintry shower through the day, while a few snow flurries could fall to near sea level. Morning sun for Otago then wintry showers and snow flurries to low levels move in late afternoon along with cold westerlies.
