Western rain, eastern sun – The Big Picture on Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A westerly airlfow lies over NZ on Thursday, as we continue to sit under the large low pressure system which brought some pretty spectacular fireworks over the lower North Island earlier this week!

Showers and areas of rain stick around on the western side of the country all day.
The East Coast of the North Island is mainly dry, with some sun, and warm winds blowing from the northwest.

The East Coast of the South Island looks mainly sunny too, as Canterbury and Marlborough see sunny areas, along with the chance of a few isolated showers – mainly nearer the coast.
Otago and Southland see areas of cloud and the odd shower is possible, but showers are more likely for Southland in the afternoon.
Winds stay light, and generally tend southwest in the afternoon.
