Welcome to 2021, New Zealand! Here’s your first forecast of the year (+5 Maps)

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Weak low pressure is trying to form over the country today, with the low centred over the South Island.

This will encourage rain clouds to gather and build up around Southland, Otago and South Canterbury. Only a few showers, or lighter patchy falls, go further north.

The North Island is mainly dry but western areas will be fairly cloudy with a few showers or drizzle patches tonight/overnight.

It’s a similar set up tomorrow, Saturday, too – although some heavier showers are possible in the afternoon in the upper North Island.

Many places are normal to above normal temperature-wise today, but Southland and Coastal Otago will be colder than usual – along with the wet weather.

See your local forecast for HOURLY details wherever you will be across Aotearoa New Zealand today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
