Here’s what is making the weather headlines this weekend….
GETTING WARM MID THIS WEEK
Temperatures are going to warm up again after our cold blast yesterday. Wednesday and in particular Thursday this coming week sees quite warm temperatures, highs in the mid to late twenties look like developing.
The map below may be a little hard to decipher but afternoon temperatures will peak a touch higher in the warm spots than it is indicating. This is the case for the inner North Island, Bay Of Plenty especially. In the South Island the warmest highs will be inland east of the main divide.
WEATHER ON SUNDAY
Expect a westerly airflow over the North Island, tending northwest further south. The basic set up is showers or rain in the west, drier warmer weather in the east.
North Island
Cloudy periods in the west with occasional showers, it bay be drier at first with showers moving in mid to late morning. Sunnier and drier out east but there may be some cloud for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon spreading over from the west. Expect westerly winds, blustery in the southwest (southern Taranaki through to Kapiti) and it may be a bit breezy for Auckland, Waikato and Bay Of Plenty in the afternoon.
South Island
Cloudy for the West Coast with showers, rain about Fiordland spreads northwards to reach about Greymouth in the afternoon, rain eases in the evening. Mostly sunny in the east with some developing high cloud and warmer temperatures reaching into the late teens.
