Temperatures are down in both nations as we kick off the first weekend of spring, with rain clouds for some areas too. Here are the highlights of the upcoming weather.
New Zealand:
A frontal system will sweep the country from the south to the north. The heaviest falls will be across the West Coast on Friday with a total of 100 mm locally.
Low pressure in the Southern Ocean will develop towards Sunday. Southland and the Stewart Island will be engulfed by the influence, receiving gusty winds of over 100 km/h Sunday morning to evening.
Another low pressure departing from off the Brisbane coast will approach Northland on Monday.
Wet conditions are likely across much of North Island for the first half of the next week.e
Australia:
A trough with a rainband across inland QLD to NSW will move eastward on Friday. It is expected to form low pressure on Saturday off the coast of Brisbane and rain will be confined to coastal areas along with thunderstorms, before starting to move away from the coast on Sunday afternoon.
Another low pressure zone is located in the west end of the country bringing rainfall across Gascoyne. The band of rain is expected to move slowly into inland area this weekend while dissipating.
Broad areas of the southeast and SA will see overnight minimums of 5C or below on Friday night and Saturday night with a risk of frost.
