Weekend weather forecast

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Our short week is already over so what is in store for us, in this final weekend of October?

Conditions at this stage are looking fairly dry but not 100% settled, especially in the North Island.

An intense high pressure system will remain off the east coast of the South Island, holding the nasty spring weather well away from us – but because the high isn’t centred over us we will be affected by unsettled conditions around its fringes.

Most exposed will be the Gisborne/East Cape region.  The high will pull in a cool south easterly with low cloud and a few showers.  Those showers will affect the entire eastern coastline too, plus Wellington, but conditions will improve later on Saturday or by Sunday.

Those brisk winds will be more easterly across Auckland and Northland with a much lower risk of showers – but the risk is still there especially morning and night when humidity is higher.

But most other places will see conditions improving on Sunday with those cool winds in Wellington easing.

The South Island should be the most settled with Central Otago being our Place to Be this weekend with sunny, hot, conditions prevailing.
