A warm muggy northerly airflow lies over the country on Sunday, the North Island sees a few showers in the west at first then spreading east in the afternoon. Showers for inland areas may become unstable and heavy with thunderstorms, watch for isolated downpours, Waikato and inland Wairarapa may be vulnerable here. Rain for much of the South Island, clearing in the east early on then becoming hot.
Northerly quarter winds may be a bit strong and blustery for the West Coast and through Cook Strait later on Sunday, perhaps for the east of the South Island Banks Peninsula northwards for at time overnight.
Christmas Day appears to see cloud, drizzle and showers in the west for both Islands in a northwest airflow, perhaps a few showers for parts of the lower South Island to. The upper North Island may see isolated unstable falls again in the afternoon thanks to muggy conditions. Eastern regions are hot and mostly sunny with some high cloud, temperatures will likely reach into the late twenties, perhaps early thirties especially the eastern North Island.

Hi Phil
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you for all your hard work and very accurate forecasting.
My question is (nevermind ‘mentioning anyone) When will you let your cat (Dillon?) make an appearence? He’s a lovely meow. Maybe for New Year’s ??

Guess you must live in a place with very wet weather. Other parts are drying out and need the rain.
