This weekend sees a warm to hot nor’west flow for some in the east – but that comes at the cost of a cloudy western side of NZ with patchy rain and showers slowly moving around. Many places are dry or have low rainfall totals, but rain on the West Coast will be heavy at times and spreads into the lower North Island. There are some rain warnings at the moment – see the link below.
Your local forecast (and % of rain) along with the rain radar will help you better plan your day and work out the timing of any potential wet or windy weather.
Sunday looks especially hot in the east and north of NZ with daytime highs reaching late 20s, 30 degrees potentially.
But western areas will be cloudier – including Auckland which has had a run of gloomy and windy weather this week. Sunday will be sunnier though – and hotter.
Wellington’s windy weather will also continue.
There’s a big range of temperatures over NZ this weekend. One obvious example is that on Sunday places like Hastings and Christchurch have the chance of reaching a daytime maximum of 30 degrees (depending on cloud cover) …but Dunedin has a high of only around 20 on Sunday and 15 on Monday, following a temperature mostly around 13 degrees on Saturday.
Cold fronts continue to try to move into the South Island but high pressure further north is limiting how far north that cooler air goes.
Southland especially has late spring weather this coming week with some truly summer hot days mixed in with some cooler ones too – Invercargill currently is expected to reach the mid 20s on Wednesday but the low teens on Thursday with gusty winds.
In northern NZ it’s fairly dry – or completely dry – for the next week ahead.
