WEATHER ON SUNDAY – SI WETTER, NI DRIER
A southerly airflow lies over the South Island bringing rain or showers to many, dry in the morning for Nelson and Marlborough before showers move in. The North Island is dry and mainly sunny apart from a few showers in the south and pushing up the east coast later in the day.
North Island
Mostly sunny, a mix of sun and cloud from Taranaki down through to Wellington. Kapiti and Wellington may have a shower or two then later this afternoon or into the evening cloud thickens up the east coast bringing a shower or two.
South Island
Mostly cloudy with showers, pushing north through Canterbury in the morning. Coastal Southland and coastal Otago dries up in the afternoon with sun possibly breaking through. Expect showers along the West Coast with the odd isolated heavy fall, Fiordland is dry though after morning showers clear. Nelson and Marlborough are dry to start with sun then cloud builds in the afternoon, showers develop some heavy with thunderstorms and hail, winds tend onshore but southerlies win out later in the day. Outlying areas like the Sounds and Golden Bay may not see heavy showers / thunderstorms. Overnight showers clear Central Otago, the West Coast and Canterbury from the south.
