HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS – NORTH ISLAND

The weather turns unstable this afternoon for inland parts of the North Island, especially the ranges behind Hawkes Bay. Downpours and thunderstorms are possible then clearing later this evening.

Check out today’s thunderstorm outlook from Metservice here.

TEMPERATURES WARMING UP

Highs this afternoon reaching into the low to mid twenties for parts of the upper South Island and much of the North Island today. The warmest temperatures will typically be inland a touch rather than just on the coast, sea breezes temper temperatures down a touch there.

The West Coast is the coolest spot, south of about Greymouth with highs today in the mid to late teens.

MORE UNSTABLE WEATHER TO COME

Conditions are unstable again tomorrow, this time for inland parts of the lower South Island. Thunderstorms are possible with isolated heavy downpours, later in the day there may be some heavy rain for Southland then easing overnight.

The ranges south of Napier in the east may become unstable in the afternoon also bringing a chance of thunderstorms and isolated downpours then clearing at night.

Friday brings another chance of thunderstorms to both Islands, Saturday may bring unstable conditions for the eastern South Island thanks to a front moving through.

Sunday brings a chance of isolated heavy showers to ranges of the West Coast, Monday has a risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms for the upper North Island.

Much of next week beyond that has high pressure and settled conditions however isolated showers are still possible about inland hills and ranges at times.

Certainly some spring like weather coming up.

Keep an eye on any thunderstorm potential coming up here.
