Settled for the North Island this morning, some areas this afternoon see unstable conditions develop leading to thunderstorms and downpours (more so in the east). The South Island is relatively settled today but there is some low cloud about especially this morning, a front gradually rotates onto the West Coast from the Tasman Sea bringing showers.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning showers clear then sunny spells increase, a few isolated showers possible south of Auckland for a time in the afternoon. Southwesterlies tend westerly after midday.
Highs: 19 – 23
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A few morning showers clear then expect sunny spells, isolated showers may develop for the Central Plateau late afternoon / early evening then clearing. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19 – 22
Eastern North Island
Morning cloud, a few showers north of Napier clear. Isolated showers develop about the inland ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon, some may become heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later on. Light winds.
Highs: 21 – 24
Wellington
Morning cloud breaks then mostly sunny with some high cloud, northerlies freshen from afternoon.
Highs: 19 – 22
Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud, north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20 – 25
Canterbury
Morning low cloud or fog then mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds.
Highs: 19 – 22
West Coast
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, cloud and a few showers move into South Westland in the afternoon then pushing further north late afternoon into evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17 – 22
Southland & Otago
Morning low cloud or fog possible. Partly cloudy during the day for Southland, cloud thickens up in the evening, light winds tending to the south or southeast. Mostly sunny for Central Otago with some high cloud. Coastal Otago has cloudy spells, morning drizzle possible, light winds tend southwest in the afternoon.
