Wednesday’s national forecast – Shower or two

A front moves off to the northeast of the North Island this morning with showers clearing away, a weakening front and trough lie over the South Island bringing cloud and a few showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A few morning showers then sunny spells increase, west to southwesterly winds die out later in the day.
Highs: 20 – 22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning cloud, chance of a shower then sunny spells increase. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16 – 19

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, Wairarapa may have some morning cloud then breaking away in the afternoon. Light winds tending onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 21 – 24

Wellington

Some morning lower level cloud with southerlies then northerlies pick up from afternoon with cloud breaking away but expect some high cloud.
Highs: 19 – 20

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21 – 24

Canterbury

Cloudy periods with a few showers, mainly Banks Peninsula and south of there. Afternoon sunny spells break through, especially north of Banks Peninsula. The Kaikoura area may be mostly sunny all day. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17 – 20

West Coast

A few showers then sunny spells increase from afternoon, a few showers linger for Buller into the evening. Showers while easing for Fiordland from afternoon they will linger into the evening. West to southwesterly winds die out in the evening.
Highs: 13 – 19

Southland & Otago
A few showers for Southland, clearing late afternoon or evening. Westerlies (fresh for coastal Southland) die out later in the day. Central Otago has partly cloudy skies, coastal Otago may have morning sun then a few showers develop later in the afternoon.
Highs: 13 – 19
