A northerly airflow develops / increases over the South Island today ahead of a front incoming from the southwest, the North Island has a ridge of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, morning fog possible for the Waikato. Light southeasterlies tend more east to northeast in the afternoon. Risk of a shower or two, mainly about Coromandel and north of Auckland but perhaps elsewhere in the evening. A mainly dry day expected overall.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, there could be some morning fog. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-15

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some morning cloud for Gisborne breaks away. Light northeasterlies. Northwesterlies for Wairarapa.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud, breezy northwesterlies, strong through Cook Strait.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Northwesterly winds may be breezy for Marlborough, especially the Sounds.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury

Mainly sunny with a touch of high cloud, some rain may develop about the high country in the evening spreading from the west. Northerly winds, perhaps tending a little more northeast along the coastal fringe.
Highs: 14-18

West Coast

Showers, rain from afternoon south of Greymouth, becoming heavy by evening. Northeasterlies tend more to the north in the afternoon.
Highs: 12-14

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Northerly winds.
Highs: 16-17
