A low pressure system sits out to the west in the Tasman Sea today, a warm front stretching out from this low lies over Central New Zealand.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
High cloud, mid level cloud starts to thicken from afternoon bringing in the odd shower. Rain pushes in from the west later this evening becoming heavy overnight. Northeasterly winds freshen possibly becoming strong about Northland and Auckland by evening.
Highs: 18-19
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, a shower or two for Kapiti and Taranaki. Showers starting to become a little more widespread in the evening then overnight expect some rain for Taranaki across to the Central North Island. North to northeasterly winds, strengthening midday onwards about the coast.
Highs: 14-19
Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, overnight spots of rain. North to northeasterly winds pick up a little from afternoon.
Highs: 19-21
Wellington
Patchy rain or drizzle, north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17
Marlborough & Nelson
Rain, heavy about the northwest Nelson ranges area. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-15
Canterbury
Cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle, mainly in the north. Further south is mainly dry with some sun / high cloud. The Mackenzie Country has a frosty start. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-13
West Coast
Mostly sunny for Fiordland, cloudier skies elsewhere with rain north of Greymouth (possibly heavy) then slipping southwards to reach Haast later in the evening. Easterly quarter winds.
Highs: 14-15
Southland & Otago
Any early showers clear Southland, mostly sunny otherwise after any morning cloud clears. Westerlies for Southland, light winds inland, afternoon northeasterlies for coastal Otago.
Highs: 12-16
