Wednesday’s national forecast – High pressure moves in

High pressure in the Tasman Sea starts to move in over the South Island today meanwhile a cold front moves northwards over the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy with the odd shower, Northland has some morning rain then easing. Southwesterlies tend southeast in the evening. Bay Of Plenty may stay dry till evening then showers develop.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers, clearing from the south afternoon onwards, by evening a few showers may still linger about the Central Plateau. Snow to about 600m. Southeasterly winds develop in the morning.
Highs: 7-14

Eastern North Island

Showers about Wairarapa spread into Hawkes Bay during the morning then Gisborne in the afternoon with southerly winds. Snow flurries to 400m about the ranges of Wairarapa, 700 to 800m for the ranges of Gisborne.
High: 10-14

Wellington

Morning showers (perhaps some small hail) and snow flurries to 400m clear, sunny spells increase from afternoon. Fresh cold southerlies die out at night.
High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson

Any early showers clear then sunny for Marlborough, a mix of sun and cloud for Nelson. Southeasterlies ease, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 12-13

Canterbury

Morning showers and snow flurries to 400m clear, showers may not clear Banks Peninsula till afternoon, sunny spells then increase. Southwesterlies ease and die away.
Highs: 10

West Coast

Sunny, a few clouds north of about Westport with a few lingering showers. Light winds.
Highs: 10-14

Southland & Otago
Showers clear in the morning then sunny areas increase. West to southwesterly winds ease.
Highs: 10-11
