A cold southwesterly airflow eases over the country today with conditons improving. Still could be a few showers about Southland and on the West Coast. An anticyclone moves a little closer to New Zealand in the Tasman Sea.

Northland, Auckland
Early showers clear then expect sunny weather with some cloud at times, cool southwest breezes ease in the evening.
Highs: 15-16

CNI, BOP & Waikato
Sunny with southwest breezes, frosty inland to start.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island
A few morning showers clear, mainly about Wairarapa and Gisborne then becoming sunny. Southwesterlies ease dying out by evening.
Highs: 10-13

Western North Island
A few early showers clear then expect mostly sunny weather, cold southerlies ease dying out early afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington
Early showers and snow flurries to 300m clear then mostly sunny weather developing. Cold southerlies ease dying out during the afternoon.
Highs: 12-13

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny after a cold start, light winds.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury
Any early coastal showers clear otherwise expect sunny skies. Cold southwesterly winds ease dying out in the afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast
Sunny with light winds after a frosty start. Some cloud sitting offshore during the afternoon may push closer to the coast for a time and deliver a few showers.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago
Cloudy periods about Southland with breezy westerlies, a few showers mainly morning. Sunny spells and some cloud elsewhere with cool westerlies, light winds inland after a very frosty start.
Highs: 8-13
