A series of fronts work their way onto the country today. Most parts of the South Island should recieve some wet weather during the course of the day. The North Island remains mainly dry getting rain or showers there on Thursday.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Light north to northwest breezes. Sunny and cloudy areas. There is the risk of a light shower late afternoon and evening mainly south of about Auckland. Overnight showers develop in the west.

Eastern North Island
Sunny and warm with some high cloud at times. Expect north to northwest breezes. About the Wairarapa cloud will thicken up for a time in the afternoon with some brief rain, northerlies will increase in the afternoon also. Overnight southerlies develop for the Wairarapa with a few showers.
Highs: 26-28
 
Western North Island
A few morning sunny areas with thickening high cloud. In the afternoon showers develop with breezy northerlies. Showers ease in the evening but not clearing with the odd shower still passing through now and then.

Wellington
Cloudy with the odd spot of rain possible from morning. A greater chance of rain develops in the afternoon with breezy northerlies becoming brisk and gusty at times. Rain eases in the evening then gradually clears with winds easing. Overnight southerlies develop with the odd shower.
High: 19
 
Nelson
Scattered rain develops in the morning with northerlies, rain more persistent for a time in the afternoon then clearing in the evening with winds easing.

Marlborough
Cloudy skies with breezy north to northwest winds, in the afternoon a period of rain moves in from the northwest then clears by evening with some sun as windy conditions ease. Overnight winds change southerly with some cloud.
Highs: 22-24
 
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, north to northwest winds. A period of rain moves over mid to late afternoon with a southwest change. Rain then eases to the odd shower in the evening. Overnight a further period of shower moves through perhaps this time a little more coastal.
Highs: 24-26
 
West Coast
Rain possibly heavy at first easing to the odd shower in the afternoon as northerlies change southwest. A few sunny spells break through in the afternoon. Showers mostly clear by evening.
Highs: 18-19
 
Southland & Otago
About Southland and coastal Otago, winds change southwest in the morning bringing scattered showers which clear later in the evening. Expect a few long dry spells too. Early rain clears for Central Otago mainly in the west, a few sunny breaks then develop. Around midday southwesterlies then push through with some increasing cloud and the odd shower which clears later in the evening. Cold at night.
