Skies will be fairly cloudy for most today although fairly dry. Showers look like they’ll move onto parts of the North Island mainly south of Auckland through to the Central North Island and across to Hawkes Bay and Gisborne after midday.

Upper North Island

Cloudy areas with some sun at times, westerly breezes tend more southwest by midday. Expect the odd shower also about western Waikato spreading east in the afternoon into northern parts of the Central North Island, the Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne. Showers then clear at night.
HIGHS: 23-26, 28 in Gisborne.

Lower North Island

Cloudy this morning for most in the west and about Wellington with northwesterlies, winds will be strong about Wellington. The odd shower may be about also mainly in the Tararua Ranges. Winds change southerly be midday with the odd sunny spell then pushing through, winds north of Kapiti will remain fairly westerly however. In Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay expect sunny weather in the morning, southerlies push through in the afternoon bringing some cloud. The odd shower develops about Hawkes Bay for a time.

Upper South Island

Southerlies develop this morning in the east bringing mostly cloudy skies, winds tend more east to northeast in the afternoon. The odd drizzle patch is possible in the afternoon about the Canterbury foothills. Mostly sunny in Nelson with light winds tending westerly or southwest. Cloudy and sunny areas on the West Coast with west to southwest breezes, any morning showers clear.
HIGHS: 19-23

Lower South Island

Any early showers clear then sunny areas increase especially inland, southwest breezes. Westerlies a bit brisk about Southland with cloudy spells and the chance of the odd shower at times.
HIGHS: 15-19

Warmest – East of the North Island

Windiest – Northwesterlies may be strong about Cook Strait and Wellington this morning.

Sunniest – Central Otago and Northland.

Wettest – Afternoon showers about eastern Bay Of Plenty and East Cape may be heavy.
